Kelso Web Services, LLC

Background

Kelso Web Services, LLC was formed in 2002, by Jeff Kelso. He wanted to bring his skills as a computer programmer and web developer to small- and medium-sized companies in the Richmond area. These firms need good web sites but could not afford the rates that the big consulting firms have to charge.

He has been involved with computers for over twenty years. Most of that time he was working as a staff consultant for several consulting firms (although he did spend a few years as a computer programming instructor). He began on IBM mainframes but quickly moved on to PCs with an emphasis on client/server and Visual Basic.

His first web site was developed while he was on a contract at Best Products where he developed a prototype web site for them. This was done using HTML 1.0 and Notepad! Regrettably, Best Products went under before the prototype could be shown to top management.

His interest in web site development continued and he developed several sites for personal use and for some non-profit organizations. He also completely redesigned the web site for the consulting firm he was then working for (the site is no longer up).

He later worked on consulting contracts where he was a team-member on web projects. His special area of expertise became human interface usability. This includes making sites intuitive, simple to use, and, as much as is possible, crash-proof. It also involves making sure that there is nothing in the site that would present an impediment to people with disabilities (about 17% of the American public has a disability).
